Braunschweig, Holy Roman Empire: Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss was a German mathematician and scientist who contributed significantly to many fields, including number theory, statistics, differential geometry, geodesy, geophysics and others. Sometimes known as the Princeps mathematicorum, the Prince of Mathematicians.
