1970 CE: SADAT RISES

Sept 28: President Nasser of Egypt dies…

Vice President Anwar El–Sadat assumes the reins of power In Egypt; Sadat ends three year War of Attrition between Egypt and Israel – in the Sinai and along the Mediterranean coast… Israel had lost 1424 soldiers and 127 civilians over the three year duration (July 1, 1967 – Aug 7, 1970)… Sadat will, in due course, launch the carefully and astutely–planned Yom Kippur assault and war eastward across the Suez Canal three year and two months later (see also later, 1977 CE: “ANWAR SADAT”).
