An estimated 20–35 million Russians went through the notorious Gulag system, with 8–10 million+ estimated to have died as a direct consequence.
Alexander Solzhenitsyn was born in 1918 in Kislovodsk, Russia; Nobel Prize for literature 1970; exiled from the Soviet Union 1974; Soviet citizenship restored in 1990. He returns to the Soviet Union in 1994…awarded a Soviet Union prize by Soviet President Putin, who visited Solzhenitsyn’s home in 2007 to present it.
