1980 CE Eco:: UMBERTO ECO

–publishes The Name of the Rose (Italy).

–a historical mystery set in a fourteenth century monastery.

Eco was an Italian medievalist, semiotician, philosopher, university president and novelist who polished his unique craft in the latter half of the 20th century (and into the 21st).

Best known for his novel and classic—“The Name of the Rose” (1980 in Italian, 1983 in English)… followed–up by Foucault’s Pendulum (1988 in Italian, 1989 in English)… interestingly, Eco awarded over thirty doctorates from universities worldwide, including University of Tel Aviv (1994) and Hebrew University (2002).
