Oct 14: Mohamed Hosni Mubarak ascends to President of the Republic
–following the assassination of Anwar El–Sadat by right–wing extremists.
Fourteen years into his term, Mubarak delivered a historic eulogy at the (Har Herzl) Jerusalem funeral (November 6, 1995) of slain Israeli Premier Yitzchak Rabin.
Mubarak’s reign would continue until February 11, 2011, after 18 consecutive days of pro-democracy demonstrations.
