Having sown the seeds of hatred against the Jews for 2000 years, the Vatican has now spent the last 60 years slip sliding away from any moral culpability…from confronting the reality of the consequences of its actions from “coming clean” with its own people on the matter…
and, last but not least,
from actually fully and truly expunging the cancerous hatred and demonizations and denigrating stereotypes from its from its texts and passion sagas – ‘holy’ and otherwise, around the world.
In short, the Vatican has never truly ‘come clean.’
June: The Vatican has framed the issue vis à vis ‘the Jews’ as one of ‘potential “reconciliation” and of modalities of potential “dialogue.”
As we say in the theology trade, these are false idols.
For 17–20 centuries, the Vatican (and its predecessor incarnations) has been the prime enabler of virulent anti–Semitic persecution of the Jews.
The appropriate contemporary framing of the issue as regards ‘the Jews,’ is whether the contemporary Vatican not just apologizes for the moral atrocities it has committed against the Jews, which it has, but whether the Vatican intends to truly comes clean., and will clean up the toxicity to the Jews embedded In its key texts, liturgy and passion sagas
If self–appointed Jewish reconciliators for the martyred millions of Jewish victims rush to congratulate the Vatican on a stand–alone action, respectfully, the congratulatory–fest does no justice to the memories of the murdered, nor does it advance ultimate potential true reconciliation.
Ultimately, individuals as well as entities define themselves by their concrete actions, not by their posturing or by their spin.
