As the Vatican keenly knows, the overwhelming majority of the surviving Jewish inmates are now dead or dying…… so, now only 20 years to go for the Vatican, when there will probably be less than 100 living witness–survivors….
A source of tension between Jews and the Vatican has been Pope Benedict’s decision to bring back the ancient Latin mass which calls for the Jews to recognize Jesus. Following worldwide Jewish protests and the announcement by Italy’s Jewish community that they were severing ties with the Vatican, a representative of the pope said the verse in question was a “wish,” and not a “call” on Catholics to try to convert the Jews.
Respectfully, it is a clear–cut “call” (on Catholics to try to convert the Jews).
