May: Riverdale, NY: Bernard Adler, rounded–up by the Nazis at age 19 in Nagydobos, Hungary, Passover 1940, gazes over the Hudson River. Bernard Adler, near death 55 pounds at the time 1945 survivor of Ebanese – Mathaussen work–to–death Concentration Camp, is now 87. Now a resident of the Reingold Pavilion at Riverdale Hebrew Home in Riverdale, Adler converses in English, his fifth language (after Hungarian, Hebrew, Yiddish and German). With a 1947–8 “tour–of–duty” in Israel’s War of Independence under his belt, tailor by trade Adler in his ninth decade, now relaxes a little, and provides free tailoring via his portable sewing machine to fellow–residents and employees of the Hebrew Home. With his Holocaust–survivor wife Irene at his side in the same state of the art quasi–independent nursing–pavilion, and with two sons Arnon and Judah and his seven grandchildren primarily in the New York region, Qi–master Bernard Adler, buddy of the Northeast region liberator–veterans of the US Third Army, now prepares for his final journey.
