Chaim Potok: Collects degrees from (Orthodox) Yeshiva University (B.A. in English Literature) and (Conservative) JTS (M.A. in Hebrew Literature plus rabbinic ordination) both in Manhattan.
Prior to university, Potok spent summers as a teenage camper at (Conservadox) Camp Ramah in the Poconos. After his degree–gathering sprint, Potok served as a US Army Chaplain in Korea 1955–57. He was later editor of the journal Conservative Judaism 1964–1975.
The protagonists in Potok’s important body of fiction works are often Orthodox Jewish.
