Feb 4: Now a Palo Alto, CA company, Facebook was founded in Cambridge, MA
–by Mark Zuckerberg while he was a sophomore at Harvard, Facebook is a social networking website. Originally limited to Harvard students, then to the greater Ivy League, then to any university student, then to anyone over age 13, Facebook now has over 100 million active users worldwide.
Within a month of its launch, more than half the student body at Harvard were registered on the Facebook internet site. Three roommates at Harvard – Zuckerberg, Chris Hughes, and Dustin Moskowitz, along with Eduardo Saverin comprised the original founding group of Facebook.
