In a separate, but illuminating, incident, on July 28, 2006 at 2:36 AM, Gibson was stopped and arrested on Pacific Palisades Highway in Malibu, CA for DUI (driving under the influence of alcohol). While handcuffed in the car, Gibson made anti–Semitic remarks to the officer, James Mee, who is Jewish. On July 29, both the LA Times and the NY Times confirmed the authenticity of the intense anti–Semitic remarks. (The sordid details available via TMZ.com and/or via google–search)
